In 1956 and 1958, and lastly 1961, the location was annexed into four sections. The University of California, Riverside is a part of the best public university system nationally. It takes up about half the land area on this region. It has mixed land uses, and high-density apartments that the students can occupy. It also includes a center of commerce and entertainment and low density hillside housing and even some land for farming The University Agricultural Experimentation Stations has acres of land that is undeveloped that is near the urban center. Student housing is prominent in the area and also businesses along University Avenue are just short strolls away.
